    This session will review the definition, classification, risk factors and management of skin tear wounds that occur frequently in the PALTC community. Topics to be covered include why our population is at such high risk. We will review the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (iSTAP) classification as a simple way to classify the skin tears and help determine treatment using established wound care principles. We will discuss how these should be considered a quality marker of care and should be considered for more tracking. Case-scenarios will be utilized for an interactive session.

    The response to COVID-19 altered the nursing home environment. This session utilizes the data of the Veterans Affairs Community Living Centers' system to explore how the response to the virus impacted the physical function, cognitive function, and mood of VA CLC residents. The session will also describe long COVID and the associated symptoms and outcomes. Learning from experience can influence nursing facility’s policies on infection control, vaccination and optimal care delivery for future infectious disease outbreaks.

    This session will review the upcoming regulatory changes impacting the LTC e-Prescribing environment including the SUPPORT Act’s electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS) mandate and recent changes to the NCPDP e-Prescribing SCRIPT Standard to accommodate the three-party (prescriber, facility/caregiver, & pharmacy) communication needs of LTC. Pertinent DEA requirements surrounding EPCS will also be discussed.
