PALTC23 Conference Recordings SA08 MythBusters: Advance Practice Providers in PALTC

MythBusters: Advance Practice Providers in PALTC

This 60-minute session will address four common myths regarding the role of APPs in PALTC. The following commonly articulated myths regarding APPs will be addressed: (1) inadequate knowledge to complete assessment and manage common chronic and acute problems; (2) APPs all have the exact same knowledge base, educational preparation, and scope of practice; (3) resident/patient/family/staff satisfaction decreases when working with APPs, and (4) partnering with APPs increases physician risk of litigation. The panel-style format will allow participants to ask questions and allow APPs to discuss/describe how they perceive their role in PALTC.

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this session, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the role and common practice activities/skills of APPs in PALTC.
  • Discuss three similarities and three differences between the educational background, practice experience, and licensing requirements for APPs.
  • Identify current evidence related to resident/patient/family/staff perceptions and satisfaction with APPs providing care in PALTC.
  • Understand the requirements for malpractice coverage when APPs are part of the PALTC physician team practice.
