The goal of this training is to introduce decolonization as an effective strategy to reduce infections, hospitalizations, and antibiotic-resistant pathogens in nursing homes. It examines the evidence for universal decolonization as a QAPI strategy to prevent infections, antibiotic use, hospitalizations, and multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) in nursing homes. This training will review key implementation elements for success and review freely available educational resources for adoption.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the clinical trial evidence and rationale for decolonization to prevent serious infections and multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs).
- Discuss the key elements of education and training needed to attain the benefit of decolonization.
- Provide information on available resources to establish a decolonization QAPI project in nursing homes.
